Postcode Lottery Funding for C.U.S.P.

C.U.S.P. applied to the Postcode Lottery for funding earlier this year and successfully won £2000 to pay for an Outreach project. Ric and the crew from Exist spent a week at Blaen y Maes community centre with a portable skatepark and all the equipment for everyone to get on skateboards and scooters and give it a go. Today a film crew from the Postcode Lottery came to Exist to talk to Kate, Ric and Rob about how the money was spent and the positive experiences that C.U.S.P. provided the children at the centre. Television royalty Fiona Phillips interviewed Kate and the boys and was very impressed with what we are doing at the skatepark and in the community although she couldn’t be persuaded to put some pads on and get on the mini ramp. Maybe next time, in the meantime lookout for the interview in the near future and thanks again for all your continued support! Thanks to the Postcode Lottery for believing in what we are doing here at C.U.S.P. and providing much needed funding for our ambitious community projects.

‘We Women Skate’ two day workshop

For two evenings last week Exist hosted a workshop run by ‘We Women Skate’, 10 girls came along and each received a new complete set up which they designed, painted and put together. Everyone had an awesome time and there were girls from ‘We Women Skate’ and Exist skatepark skating with the girls, helping them put their new set ups together, encouraging them and progressing their skating.

A two day girl event. A chance to meet and mingle with other skater girls, design your own board and hang out with like minded people.
It takes a lot of confidence to skate with the boys so this is a chance to learn a few skills and talk about your feelings about loving and living a male dominated sport. Learn to set up and customize your board.
For ages 9 – 18 yrs.
Girl and women only.
First 10 booked in get a free set up.

“Well what a blast the last two evenings have been! We had a workshop in Exist run by the ‘We Women Skate’ gang. We had 10 girls sign up ranged from 8-18 years old, on the first evening we had a lovely chat about what we want to achieve from skateboarding and how things effect the young girls coming into a boys world. They then started to design and paint their own decks, a lot of creativity going on! The next day I showed them all how to grip their boards and the girls from We Women Skate taught them how to put all the hardware on. After all that we took them into the open session to have a skate ! We thoroughly enjoyed having the girls in and look forward to doing future projects with them!” Words and photo:Lou Parker
